| Gavin's
interest in photography was born as he started to take holiday
snaps when he was about 7 years old. This soon developed into
a love of black and white photography and hours of his school
career in the darkroom, dodging and burning, with hands in
the dev and fix.
At about 12, Gavin was introduced to Newbury Racecourse. It
didn't take long for him to catch the racing bug and become
a signed up junior member at Newbury and at Cheltenham. A
spell in the mid-nineties as son of a syndicate member took
him to the core of the game at many racecourses in southern
Britain, where he even experienced the thrill of the winner's
enclosure. What remains are the photographs of the wining
horses in their frames on the wall.
Gavin received a 2/1 BA(Hons) in Photography, Film and Video
from the University of Westminster, the modern name for the
respected seat of photographic learning - Harrow College.
He specialised in Digital Imagery, combining photography,
video and the relatively early days of computer based imagery.
This led to a creative position at Two Way TV, the leading
interactive TV pioneers based in London.
After 8 years there, experiencing how business can and can't
succeed, he finally felt ready to embark on turning his dream
of becoming a professional photographer into a reality. The
natural area to specialise in was, of course, horse racing... |
